Our volunteer staff is made up of a diverse group of individuals from various cultures, religions, ethnicities, and backgrounds across various fields such as education, social services, non-profit, government, criminal justice, retail, and hospitality. All volunteers are background checked & receive 24 hours of training prior to attending camp. 48% of volunteers are Camp ANYTOWN graduates.

ADVISORS:

 

Preferably individuals who have experience working with youth in the community or groups. Advisors need to lead and facilitate a small group of high school students from different backgrounds. Professional background and personal traits should blend with the general requirements for background diversity and qualities sought among Anytown staff members. Must be in good health and capable of working in group settings for long hours.

General Job Description
  1. Assist in facilitating small group discussions of high school students from diverse backgrounds in breakout sessions and during downtime.
  2. Facilitate various workshops under the leadership of the Executive Director.
  3. Help set up and breakdown activities.
  4. Be attentive to camp counselors and delegate needs, and offer assistance when necessary
  5. Encourage delegates to extend boundaries regarding what they think and what they feel
  6. Deal sensitively with the process of growth of the delegates
  7. Lead by example
  8. Be supportive of camp counselors in maintaining discipline
  9. Get delegates to activities, exercises, and meals on time
  10. Follow and enforce camp rules
  11.  If not assigned a specific task, blend in, and participate in all activities.
Desired Qualities
  1. Exhibits leadership
  2. Familiarity with cultural diversity issues, including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, interfaith, gender, sexual orientation, and ability.
  3. Cooperative attitude and is even-tempered.

  5. Exhibits sound proficiency in decision making, role modeling, and listening skills.
  6.  Can sensitively deal with emotionally charged topics.

COUNSELORS:

 

Preferably individuals involved with groups or organizations which are task and people-oriented. Personal traits should blend with the general requirements for background diversity and qualities sought among Anytown staff members. Must be in good health and capable of working in group settings for long hours. Although Anytown experience is essential, it is unnecessary as long as an applicant can attend all staff training/development sessions. College students and high school graduates are considered desirable for the position due to the level of responsibility and experience required in implementing the Anytown program.

General Job Description

    2. Encourage delegates to extend boundaries regarding what they think and what they feel.
    3. Participate in all activities with enthusiasm while allowing the delegates’ experiences to prioritize one’s own experiences.
    4. Deal sensitively with the process of growth of camp delegates.
    5. Lead by example.
    6. Supervise assigned delegates at all times, including during sleeping hours at night.
    7. Get delegates to activities, exercises, and meals on time.
    8. Ask for help when you need it.
    9. Follow and enforce camp rules.
